RIBA 2021 shortlist for the world’s best new building | domus


The Royal Institute of British Architects has announced the architecture projects in the running for the RIBA International Prize 2021, the important biannual award that celebrates architectural excellence around the world. Three projects, with varying scales, have been selected. Their purposes make an important contribution to communities and places around them.


Friendship Hospital, in Satkhira, Bangladesh, by Kashef Chowdhury/URBANA: a remote hospital set in the watery landscape of the Bengal, built to withstand the ravages of climate change.


James-Simon-Galerie, in Berlin, Germany, by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin: a classically inspired but minimalistic entrance building and a visitor centre for the the Museum Island, one of the world leading cultural destination and Unesco World Heritage Site.


Lille Langebro, in Copenhagen, Denmark, by WilkinsonEyre and Urban Agency: a technically innovative new cyclist and pedestrian bridge. It can slide open and let ships in, revitalising the city’s harbour.


The winner of the RIBA International Prize and the RIBA International Emerging Architect Prize will be announced in early 2022.
